Slow at work can be a blessing

Since we are working during a pandemic our IT workflow has slowed down with furlough being in effect. This can make for some pretty slow days at work if you aren’t motivated. Lucky for me, and our field, times like this make a great time to catch up on low priority projects or in some cases bigger projects also. Doing things like Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrades with less users to schedule with is a lot easier. Pushing application upgrades has been also much easier. This not only gives us things to do but helps us catch up because it is NEVER ending in IT. More things will come and since we are gearing up for a Microsoft 365 migration, having less small projects to deal with is going to be very helpful.

  1. Jonathan,

I agree with you that the workflow has slow down not only Information Technology (IT). Like me, I work as a contract specialist for the acquisition department; and we procure supplies and services for the hospital. Because of the pandemic we were required to telework and the workflow has slowed down since. Every day is interminable, yet the hours fly by. Working at home, I am able to catch up with my acquisitions training to maintain my level 2 as contract specialist. Time is moving differently now partly because we’ve added tasks to our day that we never had to think about before. There’s simply more to get done in the same number of hours we always had. At the same time, the sense of slowness we’re also noticing comes from the density of all the new demands.
